I think the West is falling backwards. And the East has not yet caught up. So my guess is that mankind will never go to Mars. I hate to say it, because I like science fiction as much as anyone, but we are on the brink of a new Dark Age of ignorance, disease and war. Who knows if we will ever come out of it? We just might get to walk on Mars before the Dark Age hits with full force, but I doubt it.
