This stuff is very cool. Each little sat has it's own ion engine which will place itself into its own designated orbit.

Anyone know how long it takes for the satelites to obtain their proper orbit?

Probably a few weeks, ion engines are efficient but weak as fuck.

I think I read it takes a few weeks on average.

It's quite something to see, especially when you don't know what you're looking at. The Falcon 9 test flights were almost alarming when I first saw them because they usually did them just after sunset and the vapor trails would linger for hours. At the time I hadn't heard much about SpaceX either.
