Solar is not great as a utility. It's fine as a supplement, but they should build a power plant that uses local resources.

Grid level solar and wind is stupid. But they are fine at endpoints, so long as they can disconnect from the grid and still function.

They live in a desert. Anything they'd burn to make electricity would have to grow with water that they would pump using electricity. This makes sense for solar, though only because they can't rely on the outside world for shipments of coal or oil.
