Not to be super picky, but Shadow banning is when you see your post but other's do not. Keeping racist communities from the trending page isn't really shadow banning. You can allow people to keep having their conversations, people who sub to that community can still see it but new users aren't confronted with a onslaught of racist content when they first visit the site. Seems fair to me.
Not doing either atm
Seems a bit unfair to still limit their free speech by protecting them from "hurtful words," and being their nanny. It is your site, and if you want to be their Mommy....
They can say what they want in their own communities. And I have not had to hide anything so far. It's only there as an option if every racist ever decides to set up shop there. The goal is to get a good sample of actual people and actual interest.
