I'm grateful for this chair I'm grateful for this pen Ideas seem to disappear But they exist they'll come again

I'm grateful getting older Though I don't feel quite grown up yet I'm grateful still relatable In progression d'effet

I'm grateful for all the drugs I used Lucky didn't get hooked on dope I'm grateful never liked needles But sure there's damage to my nose

I'm grateful I don't gamble much My addictive personality I'm grateful poker's just for fun With bills from Monopoly

I'm grateful unemployment's flagged I'm grateful rehab has few needs Miss my well paying position But if I had cash I'd prolly flee

I'm grateful I'm not stuck in jail And my family sends me smokes I'm grateful to be leaving soon But a halfway house ain't home

I'm grateful blood work's normal And I can't see my liver's size I'm grateful don't have cravings It's been forty days tonight

I'm grateful for lovers and dry spells Though I'm not sure I've been in love I'm grateful for a break from news Still point out programming's propaganda

I'm grateful for the friends I made I'm grateful I'm not dead May not always stay sober But it'd be great to come again

Outstanding, Smedley. Your new neural pathways to freedom have been entrenched. Discipline, attitude and orientation will ensure they take root and bear fruit.

Thanks. Now I have to do something practical

Your poems remind me of a modern day Robert Frost or William Ernest Henley.

Great job. I'm glad you found clarity and words to eloquently document and describe this major moment in your life.

Great lyrics for a song there.

I'm not the word smith you are but a chorus could go something like:

All the things I've said and done, at least that I remember. The hardest thing I've said by far is I'd like to try them sober.

I am a retired songwriter. Guess I always liked non rhyming poetry for the most part to explore other things. Think about getting back into it a lot with my cousin. Did plenty of jamming when I was away working off the rust.

A new friend from rehab wants to start a project. He did cut off a debtors fingers once, but they're still friends (guess the guy is like the village idiot fuck up). He also has constructive hobbies, like fabricating his own parts for intricate to scale models, and seems like a good father.

I was just offering a little nudge. I'll leave it in your capable hands should you decide to proceed that way.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas.
