I did my first sleeping on a memory foam mattress 15 years ago. It was all the rage. Before that, I had bought an overpriced pillow top over spring I slept on for 5 years. I used to LOVE getting in bed. I’d jump out of bed. Great sleep and it provided a good base for adult interactions as well.

Then I bought my first house and did a lot of waste full spending to have as much brand new stuff when I moved in as I could afford. My mattress had a dent on the side I slept on, so I was due for a new bed or mattress at least so I bought a 12” memory foam.

Now I was sweating at night, it was difficult to get out of it, and adult activities suffered because of the lack of……return energy.

I spent 8 years or so on that memory foam before moving again. I went back to a spring mattress with pillow top. Great sleep. Easy to get out of. I was back on team spring.

Now I’m back on a memory foam in a short-term rental until a new house is ready in a couple months.

I fucking hate this bed. My shoulder hurts. It’s effort to get out of it. I’m sweating even with a window open and temperatures in the 40’s and a tower fan blowing that cool air on me. I get better rest on the couch.

I’m going back to spring and pillow top when the house is ready.

adult activities suffered because of the lack of……return energy.

Memory foam is crap, with this being the no1 reason.

It really is. And my hips are aging. I have a different perspective now. I’m no longer a younger, recently separated man having those activities anymore. But back then, those adult activities led to sweaty exhaustion.

These days, I want to be cool and comfortable As the top priority. Memory foam provides neither.

And should I need that “return energy”, the memory foam is crippling. Give me springs from here on out.

I think memory foam was designed for NASA to use in astronauts seats to mitigate the G-force effects of acceleration. It has a design lifespan of days, maybe hours. Why would you want your mattress to "remember" you? If it's remembering you, it is worn out. It should be made to 100% "forget" you in a 16 hour time span.

Get a padded topper for the bed.

Memory foam is no good. I love me some pocketed coils.

Same here loved my pillow top mattress, now I have memory foam with cooling gel, and it is horrible. It cools me off for the 1st 5 mins then I'm hot all night, and I wake up sore in the morning.

I had an air-filled mattress that was FANTASTIC. For some reason, the newer ones aren't so great. Some memory foams are advertised as being cooler. They are only marginally so.

I used to be a moving man, and I fucking hate moving those things. Dense and floppy and impossible to grip unless you feel like wasting time and two straps tacoing that bullshit.

I hate memory foam. Had an ok coil mattress, went to an air mattress select comfort knock off...Loved it, had that for 10+ years. Then one side went flat and used a coil mattress for a while again. Didnt like it one bit. So bought another select comfort knock off 3 years ago. Back to loving it. Wife and I both really prefer air mattresses
