We have a bit of an alt problem and I’d like to address it quickly, I’d be happy to do the screen caps but it would be faster to just get rid of the accounts and let the site log speak too it. I for sure would not make a habit of this type of thing but I thought I would run it by you guys. Thanks for any responses.

It could be helpful to note whose posts got the ups/downs in a note in the site log.

I've been strongly considering making those logs public.

can't argue with that

feature that separates us from phuks and voat

and it's the anti-shill

I could add 2 extra pages (posts and comments) in the site log section that show all the up and down votes with the account name and a link to posts or comments.

No complaints here.

How are you determining that we have an alt account problem? And, how are you holding your actions accountable to us, the user base?

[–] 5 pts

well this time around I would be doing something without much accountability. In the future we are planning a feature to have proof of alts and such and making it at least selectively public when we need to use it. Other than that I am considering making voting histories public as well.

[–] 3 pts

Voting histories? You mean which posts each user up and down votes?

[–] 4 pts

Yes currently we can see it from an admin view but I am considering making it public.

I'm good with the idea. In fact, why not eliminate down votes all together and get rid of the problem. They serve no real purpose anyway other than for folks to cal out spam. That could be easily accomplished with a simple one click button to report a link as spam. Down votes as they stand are used by some just because they don't like a post or the person who posted, so they're meaningless ... as are all fake internet points anyway - LOL.

I hate to agree with this, but it has been pretty prevalent lately and I can't actually think of any other recourse.

I found a couple of alts that are obviously alts. (They both mysteriously appeared in my guitar sub at the same time - a very low traffic sub, and immediately the DVing increased.)

The amusing thing is I don't generally even leave my subs. I don't have time to. I also don't push any narrative, except to joke and say I shill for the Classical Guitar Cabal and Big Math. You need a Gibson!

I don't much care about it, for myself. However, an article from a guest managed to get 8 downvotes and that's probably disheartening if they see it. I kinda like the guy and I don't want him to be disheartened. I'd almost guarantee it's the same one or two people.

This is a very good idea.

Full speed ahead, captain

I would have no problem with that or even banning the entire class C of a user engaged in such activity for a random period of time (so they don't know).

Make them work for it.

Will send more in PM (no boobs though)

I think you should provide documentation. But if you don't, can I have the list of alts who were/are banned for my helicopter meme?

When it comes to these kinds of things, the yard stick I use is: would I object if PMYB2s were to be replaced with Lev Bronstein himself the next day, and all these new powers were given to him?

It seems the problem is faggots and their alts abusing the voting system, correct? So how about a system that can be implemented site wide, and doesn't require any intervention on behalf of the mods.

This can be anything from the way voat goes about it with a minimum score, to weighted downvotes (new accounts ~0), or even limit downvotes based on content or words submitted (1 post = 1 downvote, 100 words = 1 downvote, etc.). Anything would be better than what you're doing now because what you're doing now is too much effort and not scalable.
