Why not just remove the dv function while the site is small? Thanks for being transparent
+1 for removing dvs. I think a different model is a good idea. I posted about upvote only with a spam button. No down vote.
PMYB2 wants discussion and dv adds nothing to a discussion.
I would say he wants free speech first and foremost. I don't see how removing DV inhibits speech at all. But someone else posted if you remove dv, then they manipulate up votes and so on.
I disagree w this idea. Removing the DV is silly. Look at Facebook. No Dislike button there and it's just an echo chamber of feel-good bullshit. If we are to have votes we must have both up and down.
I personally think we just do away with voting altogether.
With a site this small and not growing at a very pace this is a very interesting idea to explore.

I could be down w that. All or nothing. We'd need a system to replace it. But I think views and comments could work. If a submission gets a lot of views and comments that activity would drive it up the page. Which also can be gamed of course. But if we're to have votes, I want both up and down.

Agreed. At least test it for a week or two and get user feedback. Removing downvotes would really set this site apart from others.
Plus there's little spam here. Promote some janitors if your worried about spam.
Bad idea. Then people just group up and UV the comments they want to rise. It's the same effect. DV can be used at the community level to push down obvious shilling. The best way is no voting at all, a spam button, and ability to hide posts. Actually a counter of "X users have hidden this post" might be interesting.
I agree, too. DV adds nothing, but causes endless drama on all these sites. I see the whole DV thing as a worthless remnant of Reddit. Voten.co has already done this. Instead you UV if you like, don't vote if you don't wish to, and spam is flagged by an easy to use spam report button.
