I stated explicitly that admins are exhibiting a duty to protect the website they run. But what does the site exist for?
That was the question I was framing in my comment. Does it exist as (another user pointed out) a form of catharsis for us to gather 'round the cooler and bitch? Or does the conversation at the site take an object outside of the boundaries of the site, i.e. we care about the things we are discussing beyond just making our opinions known?
