Many variations of Linux are like that, update the kernel and printing and wifi breaks. Usually printing. Mint Linux is better than others that I have tested over the past 25 years, but printing breaks after every update of the kernel. Usually takes several hours to get printing going again with lots of tweeks. HP printers are the absolute worst and I am sure their "driverless" printers are what screw up CUPS.
Not sure what equipment you are printing with but I have had basically zero problems with consumer printers (Brother) for at least a decade on a half dozen different distro's and bases.
Now, the large format printers and specialty stuff... That breaks on any platform that is updated so it gets a non-networked PC with the software needed to run the printer.
Brother makes good quality products.. HP on the other hand puts out nothing but garbage. I'll never buy another HP device.
I have been saying that for over a decade and yet people still buy the shitty HP that they have to replace every 2 years or whatever. Spend a little extra, buy the Brother and stop worrying about it.
Why and how could a kennel update effect printing? A kennel update shouldn't effect CUPS either.
Please explain.
