My father taught my brothers and me how to hunt, fish, shoot, and perform most home repair tasks. (Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, auto repairs, etc.) He also had our mother teach us how to cook so we wouldn't be dependent on anyone. It's an extremely good skill to have.

Cars are so computer-enhanced now that at-home auto repair is basically down to changing a flat tire on the side of the road and replacing your wiper blades.
