"Curiosity killed the cat" is an old proverb that warned against unnecessary investigation. Schrödinger's cat may or may not be dead depending on an event that may or may not happen. Just because you are curious of Schrödinger's cat does not make it dead. Even if you unnecessarily open the box, it's no guarantee that the cat will be dead. I don't see the correlation.

Every Man in His Humour (1598)

Helter skelter, hang sorrow, care 'll kill a cat, up-tails all, and a louse for the hangman.

Much Ado About Nothing (1599)

What, courage man! what though care killed a cat, thou hast mettle enough in thee to kill care.

Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1898)

Care killed the Cat. It is said that "a cat has nine lives," yet care would wear them all out.

The Galveston Daily News newspaper (page 6) (1905)

Curiosity killed a cat; but it came back.

The Titusville Herald newspaper (page 6) (1912)

You will find greater values here. We are told: "Curiosity killed the cat, But satisfaction brought it back." It is the same story with groceries. "Prices will sell Groceries, but it is always final- ity that brings the buyer back."

The Harrisburg Patriot newspaper (page 2) (1917)

Curiosity killed a cat, But satisfaction brought it back

The Jewell Record newspaper (page 3) (1924)

Come May 19th and 21st and see this puzzle completed. As the saying goes "Curiosity killed a cat, satisfaction brought it back."

the cat is simultaneously dead and alive until you opened it so your observation while it does not kill the cat makes the state from quasi-dead to definitely dead

That's only assuming the cat is dead when you open the box. In this case it's not curiosity that killed the cat, it's your observation of the cat that does or does not kill it.

why would you observe a cat in a box if you are not curios?

Don't open the box, and the cat shall live/die happily in superposition forever.

I'm not so much interested in the cat. I've got my eye on the potential homicidal psychopath that put the cat in a box with a vial of poison gas. Killing small animals is a sure sign of a future serial murderer.
