It's possible to understand something so well that you can explain it to someone with less knowledge that won't be able to understand it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. You know how the teacher sometimes goes, "Any questions?" and there is complete silence? That teacher might suck. What I would do as the teacher is start asking the questions to make sure the fuckers I was explaining it to understood it. Another option is to ask the student, "Explain to me what I just told you." Or something to that effect.

E: In high school, I had AP Chemistry. This effing teacher. No one, all of us supposedly bright, had a clue. One girl in the class had a father that worked in chemistry, and he couldn't do the damn take home tests for her. So yeah, some teachers should simply not be teachers; they either just suck or they should be doing some advance shit in the private or government sector.
