Duels were an elitist cunt's way of murdering someone without recourse. If you weren't nobility, a high ranking soldier, or part of the elite ruling class, you didn't get to initiate duel...oh, you might participate in a one, but your gun would be empty/unloaded, or your untrained hand would be given a claymore in response to a rapier. Notice that the moment the average man could own a mass produced gun, dueling was outlawed across the land....modern dueling takes place in court...or S.Chicago, you can go there and duel to your hearts content.
all true, like I said, not a fan of most of the old rules
