Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said a fast response by first responders might have saved lives during the mass shooting in Fordyce.
A gunman opened fire at an Arkansas grocery store Friday, killing at least two and wounding several others, authorities said.
The deadly incident unfolded about 11:30 a.m. CT at the Mad Butcher in Fordyce, which is about 70 miles south of Little Rock.
"Seven of the shooting victims were civilians, with two fatalities. One law enforcement officer was also shot and has non-life-threatening injuries," Arkansas State Police said in a statement.
The shooter was critically wounded by police and taken into custody, police said.
