Eh, it's a trust factor thing. It's smarter to use a vpn if you routinely connect to a public wifi. So yes there is a matter of security at stake.

routinely connect to a public wifi.

yup that is main reason i got it, plus i see it as same as having ublock.. is 100% naw, nothing is but it sure is better than nothing

Awesome post! I have thought this for years why wouldn't I just setup my own.

But have you set up your own? It's the type of thing I'd rather pay for b/c I can't be arsed.

they advertise that they do not log, if they are caught logging you can sue them out of business

Yes... and no internet service has ever lied before, or given data to a tyrannical government.

i think there is a certain law tho US can force them too maybe in the patriot act, i dont know i forget... This why it advised to get a vpn that is based out of the country. Because if requested they will log your traffic, but that mean you already caught... do they keep a running log on you?... I doubt it, but like i said if US based they can be forced to at the time of request they have to log your shit.

i use PIA (which is in USA) but i really dont care as dont any shady shit. Like, the worse thing i do is maybe stream a movie here or there. I mainly have it for

1: its cheap

2: I can connect to a public wifi without worrying

3: the encryption

but fuck, it drains the hell out my battery on my phone tho

I see it as all my traffic is logged without a VPN. It might possibly be logged with one. The VPN wins that logic contest, even if the answer is "Schrodinger's Internet", where you cannot know for sure on a VPN.
