I have a buddy who worked in the oil and gas industry, in IT.
got fired on Jan 6, for EXTREME downsizing. Jan 8, they called him back for a ransomware attack. The bosses were committed to not paying the ransom. The problem is, the hackers deleted apps. Not just data.
Data is backed up regularly. Apps, not EVER. too much data to try to backup, plus backup copies are nearly worthless due to copy protection.
He worked to rebuild what he could, but in the end this corporation was left crippled. No enterprise network, no ANYTHING, except for data that was backed up, with no apps to drive it.
