Did your mother know of the side effects and was this because the side effects were not know at that time?
The side affects were not known at the time. I think it was in the mid 60's that it came under scrutiny and was finally banned in the early 70's.
Well then, I guess your mother did not know.
So its a bummer.
I wonder if (non-medicated/medically prevented) miscarriages are the same % as now v. then?
I believe miscarriages are a fact of life and having the expectation that you will never lose an unborn baby is being misguided. It has been determined many times that a miscarriage is because of an anomaly in the health of the woman or the developing baby... sometimes it's best to let nature take it's course.
My mother had three other children without the use of drugs (DES), which she more than likely took at the direction of a doctor following a single miscarriage.
