doesnt help that the gov has been ordering US farmers to destroy their crops since the early 2000s. they do this with the argument that we need to buy produce from mexico. buying produce from mexico has a number of issues. it funds the cartels as they stole a lot of farmland from good mexican farmers. then the produce trucks going into the US are used to smuggle drugs and human trafficking. All those recalls you see from salmonella or lysteria are from those human trafficking loads as the people in them are eating and defacating on the produce. a few years back entire orange crops were destroyed because no one was buying orange. yeah it was around $10 for a bag of oranges, yet if they sent those to markets to get people buying the price would drop. the price of nuts is so high due to california forcing the nut orchards to get torn up and replaced due to their strict water restricitons. all kinds of crops are ordred to be destroyed for bs reasons and that alot of why produce costs so much.
