So what? Rocks take even longer to decompose and you don't see anybody bitching about those.

I was chatting with a friend of mine about the article. He said something like, "Why not have plastic-only landfills so that when they figure out a good way to reuse it they can just dig it all up?" That got me wondering. I almost posted it in s/showerthoughts.
