Holding the breath usually works, I find. My hiccups are annoying, because they are LOUD.

I do the same, but with a twist. Since hiccups are caused by the diaphragm muscle under the lungs spasming, I take the deepest breath I can before holding it. That way the muscle is fully compressed, at least as fully it can be without invasive surgery.

Yes. I've also found controlling your breathing, particularly slowly exhaling does the trick every time save for a few exceptions where it was a little harder to control.

I was just about to comment on this. I concentrate on making that next hiccup come as much as possible. It never does.
