Our technology is still very primitive... from the perspective of the future humankind. We're just slapping together a few materials to form a barrier between the outside and ourselves. In the future I believe the transportation will be much more spiritually oriented, as in transportation through heavy simulation immersion. The AR/VR industry is the proof that we're heading towards that. In the end, I believe we'll be able to venture through the spiritual realm instead of putting a heavy toll on the body by having the spirits travel while the bodies stay on Earth. The physical stars that are juxtaposed to the spiritual realm will be sort of like specific checkpoints within the spiritual realm. I'm also an idiot that's talking out of his ass.
