I went to a psych at one point. I personally had not realized that mental health counseling != psychiatrist. He prescribed me pills, never picked them up, and discontinued service. I want help and advice on my life, not some pills
Good move. Most mental health problems are behavioral rather than physical unless you were mentally healthy until someone hit you upside the head with a brick.
Psychiatrists love to prescribe pills because that's much easier than evaluating someone's life story, assessing their behavior, recommending adjustments to improve their mental health, and persuading them to actually follow through.
Writing a prescription? That takes a minute. Pulling a Stefan Molyneux and unfucking someone's life? That's hours at minimum, a year or more at max.
Honestly, my family member passed away, and it screwed up my psyche pretty bad. Numbing me out about said person dying, as i found out the HARD way, will only delay the anguish. You merely delay the grief, and that sucks a hundred times more than doing the difficult part of processing the grief properly in the first place
Which is perfectly sensible. Grief following death is rational. Handing out meds for that is like giving someone painkillers because a Doberman is chewing on their arm instead of addressing the cause of the pain.
