What was wrong with this guy's experiment?
im surprised on how sensitive the device is to somebody wondering around a room wind? mass?
the real cavenish was in another room far away
i thought it was strange he didnt put the bowling balls very close. the phenomenon has a squaring affect, where the closer you are, the more radical the effect.
yes, after viewing this video, I would start to doubt the sincerity of the results of it too without having first-hand knowledge from experimenting on it myself through trial and error. I think if I was there and tinkered long enough it would become evident to me how mass influenced it, but with some changes.
For example i can also see why cavenish originally put the balls behind a glass to prevent wind
There's got to be a better experiment...why isn't there?
we can think of one, im sure.
it must be done in suspension because there is not enough "run way" to drop an object off a tall building.
I bet if the gentlemen in the tie repeated the experiment, he would have success by putting the balls in a plexiglass cage which was not susceptible to wind
edit: actually, if they put it in a vacuum then heat or cold would not be able to affect it either. a vacuum means the air is sucked out of it. it would even respond better because there is no friction except on the hanging string (tension spring)
