The article said the actual question was something like 'have you at any point in your life doubted that the earth was round.' prompt was "I have always believed the world is round." Also, the numbers from the pollsters' report (33% flat earthers) didn't match their raw data and the article implied they stopped responding when pressed about it.

With that in mind, it's kind of incredible that this publication called Scientific American would still accept the claim at face value, which they do even after pointing out some of the problems with this poll. (But they also refer to 'scientifically accepted causes for global warming,' so they're probably the kind of scientific americans who say things like 'gender is a spectrum.')
