That's exactly why I posted it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the dunes aren't "communicating" at all.

The reason the dunes are moving faster/slower when "interacting" with each other is entirely dependent on the other physical forces at work, namely, air currents.

I'm not sure what this article is trying to imply, but just because dunes interact in a predictable way because of the wind and surrounding dunes, does not mean they're communicating.

Of coure since it's self evident that dunes interact with each others, "communicate" is more appropriate to make it sound fancier
