Maniac Mansion was awesome. Actually I didn't even know it was an NES game until way after the fact because I knew it as a PC game, one of the first warez I downloaded from the early internet.
As far as favorite NES games I played at the time, I'd have to say Mario 3 and Legend of Zelda.
