Was late to this party...
My first go at Centipede, Pacman, et al., was with , on . The games ran reasonably well on a 486, had all of the sounds intact from what I remember.
Arcades were still around at the time (early to mid 90's), although their popularity was beginning to wane in favor of 16-bit home consoles. Before I had played them on PC, I skipped right over these titles and B-lined straight to the likes of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II. After playing them on PC, I started taking interest into the older titles at the arcade a lot more.
