You can download the game here: https://www.myabandonware.com/game/mechwarrior-4-mercenaries-3ak (might take some time) This version is entirely free as the owners of it released it as free in 2009, originally released in 2002 it is almost 20 years old now and that means it is older than some zoomers who voted. While the base Mechwarrior4 Vengeance came out in 2000.

I have tested the "MekTek version 1.8 GB" It is pre-patched and includes bonus content and community fixes. It worked on my modern machine but you might need to do some fiddling and compatibility (there are several resources online for this). All that said the original base game and small DLC content is available same site for that vanilla experience. I highly recommend the training and spending a lot of time in the keybindings and settings so you can pilot your way comfortably.

I will always have a soft spot for this game and it still holds up after all these years IMO if you are the type that can enjoy older games. As for anything else you can let your own eyes and ears sell you on it.

Did you manage to get it up and running?

No, your link simply sent me to essentially a collection of game files. I downloaded most of it. some of it same as last time.

mechwarrior4mercenaries.all.to...? seems more complete, but no "install.exe"...expansion?

Could you indicate (AT the link your provided) which file(s) you mean I should download?

Ok so the direct download links are only active for a bit and then they redirect to the main page..

The easiest one to get running is the MekTek pack (no install) it is the one labeled "MekTek version (brit flag) 1.8 GB" on the download area and the download file should be

MechWarrior-4-Mercenaries\Win\EN_MekTek-version.zip

If you unzip it then there should be inside it a folder named base, inside that base folder you have a lot of folders and files, in there there should be

autoconfig_MERCS.exe

and

MW4Mercs.exe

Run the auto config first and set your graphics settings (advanced optional), click continue and it should go away, you can then run the MW4Mercs.exe and the game should run, if not change the compatibility settings.

You only need to worry about installing if you are trying to get the base game running and that is from the .ISO files which there would be 2 of. (Also the install program on the ISO files is named SETUP.EXE not install)
