I thought fads were mostly for school kids. I guess not.

I have no idea where it started. I'm sure they are great cups, but I'm also sure there are plenty of alternatives that are just as good.

That thing would keep coffee/tea/soup hot for a whole day to the point it could burn you if you put it in hot enough.

My mom used to put hotdogs in them too! They'd hold hot AF and still taste great.

Never thought about that. I guess it would work well.

Also, the "new ones" have been testing for high levels of LEAD... and apparently are made in china. So there is that.

I heard about that, but I didn't really look into it. I figured the lead was used in a way that didn't cause a risk of exposure. Kind of like how asbestos is safe as long as you don't disturb it.

The example I saw was a brand new cup swabbed with a lead test kit and showed dangerously high levels (without ever being used).

If it's a vacuum bottle, it uses a lead solder to seal it - like all commercial vacuum bottles have been since there have been commercial vacuum bottles sold to the public.

You don't drink off the outer shell, so there's no lead-to-contents contact.
