Not exactly the same. Babbitt bearings are made of soft alloy, and used in most pre-50's engines. They were melted and poured into the block. Usually Rod and Mains.
Take the chevy small block, main bearings and Rods, are "Shell Bearings" insert style or "half shell" as we know they come in two parts. They are made of steel with softer layers applied that wear over time. The soft layer could however be "babbitt" or tri metal, but not many use that as they don't provide longevity as other materials such as copper-led or alunimun-tin. Babbit is a tin-led material.
And most that used babbitt have a direct replacement now that are much better for longevity. Personally I dont know of a block that has to be poured in place. I am sure there are some, but none that anyone would likely run into unless working on a matching numers classic thing that is worth more running original than usable as a fun vehicle. (kinda opinion, but hope you get that logic)
Look here (youtube.com) at 46:37. Notice the intense white metal welded to the crank... Its likely the steel inner core is what was welded together from the heat. However the distinct white color traces of the babbitt can be seen on the damaged crankshaft.

They do apply a fine coat of babbet to some. But again no wonder the Toyota motors are failing :0
Babbitt is pretty standard as the top coating for the main engine bearing. But yes, it has been a very long time since we used pure babbitt bearings. Model T/A peined babbitt I think
