So my dishwasher just decided to quit working today. The woman ran it twice, it makes noise but it didn't wash the dishes. So after fuckin around with it for a couple hours I determined that it was stuck on the Drain (Empty out the water) portion of the cycle. It makes noise every time I start a cycle but now water was coming in. I could feel the drain pump was running so I dumped a gallon of water in there and fired it back up and it pumped it right out. That did not fix the problem. It ended the cycle so I started a new one and it just went strait to trying to drain again.

Asking all the AI's for help was worthless, jewtube was worthless, manufacturers website was worthless.

BUT,,, I figured it out!!!

This white thing is on the front of the drain pump, I can see it when I look under the dishwasher. I was poking around in there looking for loose wires and whatever I might find and I noticed I could turn this white thing about 90 degrees counter clockwise and it came out.

There was a blob of grease in it so I removed the wires and got it out where I could see it. I didn't get pictures of the rest of it but there are two clips on it that hold this black box onto it. I removed the black box and cleaned the grease out of the white part. The black box has a very small pin hole in it and there was grease plugging it. Cleaned that out with a toothpick and put it all back together and the damn thing is running like a champ again. Feels good!!

On another note, awhile back I discovered that there is a filter thing in the bottom of my dishwasher (inside, not under) I pulled that out and holy fucking shit, disgusting. Do yourself a favor and go look for that thing and clean it out. It's kind of an upside down looking little basket thing and also turns 90 degrees counter clockwise to remove. Gross.

Yeah, got to be damn careful on how you get rid of grease/oil. If you are one of those people that put it down the drain you are doing it wrong. You should be doing your best to clean it out of the pan/pot/etc before it goes into the sink or dish-washer. Otherwise it could back up your plumbing far into the future as it builds up. If you are on septic, this will be hell for you in the future.

I have some home repairs to do this week, maybe ill take a couple of pics. It seems like the younger generations have no idea you can actually fix stuff yourself and will just pay $300-500 to get something fixed that would take you a hour and a little effort.

I did have to fix our dish-washer about 3 years ago since the house water heater was set too high and caused a part to fail due to the water being too hot. A little effort, glue and time and it works fine and has for years. It would probably have cost at least $300 to replace the dishwasher even if I did it myself. Rather, it cost less than a dollar worth of glue, a few days of not using it (fine, paper plates are cheap too) and maybe 45 minutes of my time. It was worth it.

I didn't know that /s/repair existed. Guess ill have to post more stuff here now.

Oh, Dish washers have filters too. You are supposed to clean them out regularly. I have never done that... Guess that's going on my list for this weekend.

My woman is always asking me why I wipe out the pans and plates before putting in the dw. Now she knows!!

Yeah, My wife grew up in a very different world to many of us and never would put oil/grease down the sink since it simply could not handle it.

I am probably more of a offender than her but I run the hottest water I can for a few minutes if I forget and see too much crud in the sink.
