Starting some months ago, my Dell color laser keeps forgetting its settings when power cycled. Today I opened it up, removed the CR2032 battery from the main board and replaced it. I found that the old one still showed 3,1 Volts when not under load but still decided to replace it if only to rule out a faulty battery.
Before I closed it up again, I made a photo just for reference. (Pic8 is acting up on me) https://files.catbox.moe/d3vli3.jpg
As expected, the problem didn't go away.
Decided to look at the photo and pic related for all the world looks like a popcorned memory chip to me. What do you guys think?
