Many of the in-office jobs I have had were extremely annoying. It felt like most people don't have a life outside of work so they would use work as "social time" and would waste your time half of the day every day. Remote works has let me get far more work done in far less time and I don't have to worry about people randomly walking into my office to BS for a hour about nothing every 30 minutes. It's not for everyone but there are plenty of places that are happy to have you in-office if that is what you want.

From the post: "Spoilers: it’s not about whether remote or office work is better. The prevalence of return to office mandates has provoked much discourse and strong opinions. For good reasons. Return to office mandates can tear teams apart by pushing out people who cannot relocate, at huge cost. "

Yep, sounds about right. I know at least 10 people that have told me they will willingly take a pay cut to stay remote and never have to deal with shitty office spaces and "ass in chair" managers again.

I've been working remotely (for the most part) for years. Started well before Covid.
Other than occasional trips into the office for meetings or short-term stints for special projects, I have been lucky to be able to work from home.

I'm old enough to remember the white-shirt-and-tie days in the office, too. Yikes!
