What do make of Jesus saying this? Matt 19:21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
The problem was the man's selfish ambitions over rode the the second commandment. So he didn't actively harm his fellows as he saw it but he had a form of Godliness buy no love of others. He went away troubled having failed to see into his own heart the lack of love for other people. His first love was himself and money rather than loving God and regarding others as equally deserving of love and compassion as himself. He broke the second law and by extension the first. Self interest was his primary interest.
