Unfortunately the rest of society does need it. When you remove christianity humans will try to fill the void and they'll eventually do it with insane, druid, scientology nonsense. I'm not against religion. Religion taught permanence beyond the leader at the time. It gave humanity a way to learn and teach beyond the now. I do have an issue with a religion that teaches subservience to keep people in line and happily oblivious. Christianity is simply a tool of the saduccee.
