You know, I would argue that the church of jesus christ was founded much earlier than seventh day adventist or jehovah's witness. The book of mormon was published when joseph smith was just 24. And a quick google search shows that the church of jesus christ was founded in 1830, while seventh day adventists and jehovah's witness were founded in 1863 and 1870 respectively.
But the story goes that there were a lot of different denominations in joseph Smith's time and he couldn't decide which one was right so he prayed about it and was told to start his own. We call it the restoration too. So, again, semantics.
So, how I understand it, in order to literally damn yourself, you would first need a perfect knowledge of Christ. Like, you would have to have been in his presence at some point and known with a certainty that he was the son of God. And THEN deny him. That's the only way to truly be damned. You wouldn't go to hell in the traditional sense though. We call it being cast into outer darkness. You would have an eternity to think about the mistakes you made. That's the torment. I think Judas may qualify for that. I'd have to do some scripture study, but off the top of my head, that's what I remember being taught.
I'm no bible scholar or mormon theologian, so take my words with a grain of salt
