Having the thing that was used to kill Jesus be the symbol of christianity doesn't make any sense to me. If christ were killed with a gun, would all the churches have guns on top of them? Would Christian chicks wear little gold necklaces in the shape of guns?

We know what the cross looked like. It was shaped like a T. The upright was fixed in place, and the crossbar was hoisted into position on a rope after the criminal had been nailed to it; then the criminal's feet were nailed to the upright. Jesus only carried the crossbeam of the cross, not the whole thing.

Any account from that time of crucifixions I have found state it was done exactly like I described. And this is from alternate sources, with no skin in the game.
