TLDW: (((Federal))) restrictions on owning guns would still come into effect even if they were pardoned of the state charges by the state governor.

Say what you will about the pair: they're jews, they're not. Doesn't matter. This is about why this plea was taken and why it was correct for them. Yes there is the overarching idea that the entire thing is illegal and extremely unconstitutional even after the fact. However: we are in clown world and SCOTUS has only EVER taken 3 gun rights cases; 1 - 1939 Miller 2 - 2008 Heller 3 - 2010 McDonald
