For maybe two weeks, I kept hearing it in about half second intervals. Tick, tick, tick. It was subtle and you would only notice when it was quiet but it was persistent.

It came from the area where my 3D-printers are standing. They were switched off, but out of desperation, I pulled the power cables. No change.

Started banging against the table and rattling whatever was in the vicinity, listening for a change. No change.

Finally, after all other ideas were exhausted and I was (again) doubting my sanity, I figured the noise must come from within the wall. Great. A leaking pipe, a steady drip drip drip. Using my stethoscope, I tried locating where best to open the wall. Inconclusive. Also there was no wet spot. Surely one should have formed after such a long time.

In a last ditch effort, I cleared everything but the printers from the table, including several cans of scanning sprays. Then... silence!

The culprit was one of my scanning (chalk) sprays. Don't ask me why, but the thing kept ticking even after shaking it. Went outside and gave it two short presses - ticking gone.

To think I almost opened up the wall... Whew, close one.

Man, I have had to chase stuff down that either had a sound or a smell or something and it took days. It is infuriating and makes you think you are losing your mind. Glad you figured out what it was.
