That's the beauty of it. You don't vote for someone to represent you, you represent yourself. You can choose to vote or not vote on any given issue.
Let's say the issue is immigration. Everyone on Martha's Vineyard votes for more immigration because it feels good. Everyone in Alamo, Tx votes against immigration because they hate spics. Any new immigrants go to Martha's Vineyard first. If you voted to let more of them in, you and your community now have to provide for them. You'd be surprised how quick those liberal assholes would switch politics once they had to deal with the consequences of their own decisions. And when they had to fill out their tax return (if the IRS even survives in a free system), there would be an additional tax placed on anyone who voted for more welfare, EBT, section 8, immigration. It's easy to be gregarious with other people's money, ...not so much when you're forced to pay for it yourself.
