There are three types of chainsaws.
Stihl, Husqvarna, and garbage.

And they come in 2 basic models Maintained and garbage

Poulan is owned by Husqvarna, so they apparently don’t give a shit about their subsidiary.

Stihl would have been great.

What? You just listed trash. Husqvarna makes damn good chainsaws. Clearly you suck.

I appreciate the recommendation.

Go get a Stihl or a Husqvarna, but I do think the smaller Husqvarnas might be made by other manufacturers. The old Stihl 041s will run forever, and they made a buttload of them. I got one used, replaced the chain and carburetor, and that thing eats trees despite being over 20 years old.

It’s one shitty tree that’s been the bane of my existence for over a year. Fucker caught fire last year while I was burning leaves on a damp October morning. Somebody charged me $500 to fell it and left it in my yard. Now the county wants to fine me because it’s an eyesore.

Be a man, grab a hand saw, and get to work!

If I still had a week to do it, I would.

No Stihls I see. There's your problem.

If you leave shitty ethanol gas in the fuel line, carburetor, and engine, all gas small engine tools will do this. Ethanol gas degrades into water and gum.

You need to change the fuel lines, degunk the carburetor or replace it, and pray the engine isn't damaged.

Don't leave gas (especially with ethanol) in small ICE tools you don't use frequently. Run them dry and then drain the carburetor and fuel lines next time.

I’ll bear that in mind for my tools. Unfortunately everything was either rental, borrowed, or secondhand.

Ethanol should be outlawed as a fuel. The government really screwed the pooch again with their "green agenda".

It just destroys fuel lines and gums up carbs. Maybe the big engines can handle it, but these little two stroke guys just clog up.

Electric. Thought they were a joke until I was in a similar situation. Multiple gas saws, zero started. 12 inch DeWalt. Little thing ran thru 4 batteries and every one that recharged that day. Lost count of how many times I refilled the chain oil reservoir. Bought one new, the best day. Been through several chains and rails on it, they just wore out. "But it's too small for this big tree!" Cut V's and take an axe and a maul. Fuck ever having to start or fix on a gas saw again.

Have a corded electric. It jammed on the trunk.

Ouch. I could only vouch for the DeWalt. And axes. Just FYI, people severely underestimate the time and energy it takes to go through trees with a good axe. If you go that route and you're not in shape, you're gonna hurt.

Just something to check:

It is likely that you start the chainsaws with the chain brake engaged. However, as illogical and dangerous as it is, I've seen some chainsaws that will not start if the chain brake is engaged. It would seem that the brake on them doesn't just stop the chain from moving, but kills the motor and also prevents it from being started while engaged.
