They began their dive around 8:00am. About an hour and a half later, they started having problems. It seems they died around 9:45am, or were somehow incapacitated to the point where they couldn't communicate with topside.

Pretty creepy how they report hearing "crackling sounds from the aft side". That's your submarine breaking, guy- topside is frantically trying to talk with some engineer named "Carlos", probably a 20-year-old illegal immigrant who was just really inspired.

It's a good thing there was no 50-year-old White engineer involved- imagine how much worse this would've ended!

There's your built for purpose patented acoustic detection system working how it should. Although what use is it when you're still 3500 ft deep ?. It's not actually a safety feature but a huge flashing 'You're fcked !!'. RIP and Good riddance.

Real time monitor would be my guess. Likely a computer screen that communicates with all of the sensors in the vehicle and displays their status
