This news story is just fucking ridiculous. They are trying to use a poorly done data analysis from China to insinuate that "muh Climate Emergency!" is going to effect ADHD rates of kids in Australia because it's going to be a MONSTERRRR! EL FUCKING NINO!!! OF ANHIHILATING DOOM!!!!
Groundbreaking new study
Bull Fucking Shit. IT WAS A SURVEY!
The fucking original study (here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s44220-023-00065-5.epdf?sharing_token=VNIO86ktagAENTwCxp-SGdRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0Ofe9VM-VzyG3ZTAVm_JEBoSfb7X-DtGrxm78i70twaSUZVTOlNi4L00i-Zt9UGAydsFeHiuclBbGUc6-BItDYQAg5q7U9r3ylGDYj956xOOX7kJmWoEptMQ87hwMv-0IPeFUxM6f1W9v3K66fo177tlN7pFZ-Xwd21yjMMAMF6X5b4qkDZwBnoBUDUpi_WfzY%3D&tracking_referrer=www.smh.com.au, apologies for all the extraneous bullshit in the link, with it cleaned up they blur all but the first page) is pretty shit on a first look. When you read the Methods section, you find out is a Survey of school children!
All of the children in the selected schools were invited to participate in the study (n = 190,791) and 184,546 (96.7%) returned a study questionnaire. We excluded children who resided at their current address for fewer than four years, or with unfinished questionnaires (n = 20,465), leaving a final study population of n = 164,081 in the present analysis.
There doesn't seem to be any correction for possible confounding factors... maybe kids who live in polluted cities don't eat good food, maybe they spend all day fucking trapped in a 10ft x 10ft cell that passes for an appartment and are climbing the fucking walls, maybe children in polluted cities are more likely to get diagnosed... maybe a lot of things.
The "journalist" who wrote this fucking story spent literally zero seconds thinking about it. IF pollution was a major CAUSE of ADHD (which is probably not even a real thing in most of the "cases"), Then, we would have seen, across the Western world, a precipitous DROP in cases over the last few decades (from the 70s onwards) as prosperous countries decided to take measures to counteract actual pollution (leaded petrol, etc). The air quality in almost all large Western cities has improved greatly over these decades, but "ADHD" continues to rise. The meager hypothesis posited here is easily falsified and they are just playing up utter fucking nonsense to gullible idiots who will believe it unquestioningly.
The study also has fucking zero to do with "muh climate change". The shit journalist just played a game of massive leaps of causal chains to claim that climate change -> El Nino -> more pollution -> more ADHD. None of those causal chains are supported by anything like significant evidence.
Fuck the fucking fuckers!
