Another gig. 16 hrs, 8 of straight show, 2-10pm. 4 reggae bands. Classic with jamaicoons showing up way late. Headliner requested load in at 9:30am. They checked into the hotel next door DAY BEFORE and they didnt bother to show up for soundcheck. All In all went fine, didn’t lose much time between bands. I thought it was funny the production manager was flabbergasted at all the delay and strife. I told him that’s just how it goes with reggae, and if they don’t give enough advance info and/ or show up after their scheduled load in and soundcheck, they get what we can do in few minutes. Hate to see someone who has been so conditioned to not correlate mayhem with race. It’s the same but worse with rap/ hip hop and RnB.

Long story short, $400 is cool, but I’m 86’ing reggae gigs like I did rap 6 years go.

Are you your own rental company or dude for hire through a rental company?

This was side gig as contractor. Day job is biggest rental co. I usually enjoy side work, as it’s good bux and it gives perspective to what me and my team deploy at day job.

Edit: it truly is a fun challenge. How fast can I spin knobs to get the sound right.

No squealing allowed. Even when the guy holding the mic walks right in front of the speaker.

Nope! Had one last night tho, whimper singer needed all the gain. Well, if the fucking band showed up for soundcheck I could have gotten speaker(s) placement optimized, and hacked EQ. Feedback is an interesting thing; interacts with whomever is using the mic. First show in a while I chased down a tough feedback issue. Monitoring it you hear resonance, ringing and then squeal. This just touched squeal for a sec ha
