I would disagree. As as just mentioned below, not all phó places are equal. Try google reviews to find a decent one. It should not be bland. It’s beef onion soup that is cooked for minimum 12 hours. Spiced with savory spices. The beef and onions should have been braised /seared to add flavors of maillard (sp?) reaction.
Yes, the places with Chinese style cooks are better.
Vehemently disagree. I’ve had a lot of pho living in places that have higher Asian populations than others. The legit Vietnamese places make good pho - stewing their broth with ox tail for hours to pull out the the flavors before adding spices.
I don’t trust the Chinese…I’ve seen too much of their cut corners to believe in anything they’ve cooked. Thai, vietnamese, and ramen? Sure. Chinese? Nope.
I'll agree that Thai is best, still never met a good Vietnamese restaurant and avoid them. I only go into their stores for vegetables that mainstream stores don't carry.
lol you don't trust chinks because they cut corners but think gooks aren't 10x worse?
pho sucks and Art is right. I've lived in huge Asian population centers and Viet food was always lowest on the list.
