I'm not saying this is a personally held belief but I think it is in the realm of possibility. Whatever or whoever seeded life in our system used the same gene plot on every celestial body in the system and mars developed intelligent life the fastest and either that creator or the intelligent life got off world and came to earth before mars had a super eruption which created it's younger misshapen moon and olympus mons and destroyed the atmosphere and magnetic field leading to the desolate wind strewn surface we see now. I haven't even read the article yet but some years back i was researching lungs and noticed human lungs and all our statistics involving them are complete outliers on the planet by every measure. The only theory modern science could offer at the time was that during a mass die off only our ancestors with shitty lung DNA lived.
