I like clown paintings, not because I like clowns, or paintings, but because Art is supposed to provoke thought.
This particular piece was purchased at a thrift store in the Schuylkill County. Coal country, in Pennsylvania.
Why did this person decide to paint a clown?
Did he like clowns? Nobody does.
Did he have a great time at the circus?
Was he a Gacy type?
How did it end up in a thrift store?
I can stare at this painting for hours, and never provide a single answer to any of these questions.
That is why it is good Art.
It’s got no body. He’s just floating. That shit is creepy dude. Don’t stare at it too long.
