Casually discussing the monkeypox fiasco with a coworker, when another coworker walks up and gets involved in the discussion. She eventually steers the conversation toward abortion with the statement, "Kids wouldn't be getting hurt if Biden wasn't forcing us to have them."

Naturally this launches a debate. First I correct her on the Biden detail, then I state my pro-life position. Woman was utterly mortified and jumps into the rape cases and mother-endangering arguments. I acknowledge her concerns and explain that those are the rare and unfortunate cases, and that most women advocating for abortion perhaps need to just stop having sex (pissed her right off lol). She tells me men need to stop jacking off and killing kids that way, I say those aren't kids, she says fetuses aren't kids, yadda yadda. Usual abortion arguments. I had to stop arguing with her, my efforts seemed futile.

How do I get through to someone like this? She doesn't even hear herself deny the fetus is a life and proceed to say she'd kill her next pregnancy if it happened.

Left out some of the specifics of the debate, this isn't a play-by-play post.

How do I get through to someone like this?

The politicians want to force the abortion debate into an all or nothing choice. "You HAVE TO vote for us, you HAVE TO give us unlimited power, OR ELSE!!"

The fact is that the vast majority of people do not support the all or nothing choices. The vast majority of people are perfectly fine with birth control, and are fine with giving the morning after pill to people who press rape charges. But the vast majority are also against late term abortions, and if a mother wants to give birth, they want the fetus to have some protections.

If the people were given more options than all or nothing, then the politicians wouldn't be able to use abortion as a way of manipulating people into voting for them. And the people would get what they want. Birth control, morning after pill, abortions in cases of rape and incest, abortions for those who's life is at risk - all allowed. While late term pregnancies would receive assistance and support instead of abortions, and if the mother chooses to give birth, there will be rights and protections.

You're an idiot, and a puppet of the political parties, if you fall for the all or nothing choices.

Also, by falling for the all or nothing choices, you're guaranteeing a few years of what you want followed by years of the bad guys getting their way. Instead of getting what you want all of the time.

Another angle - If the states choose, then people will still have access to abortions and birth control. They just might have to travel to the next state. But if the federal government decides - All the bad guys need to do is to get their cronies on the Supreme Court and abortions and birth control are completely banned from the entire US for decades. So therefore, it's far better that the states decide, right?
