Didn't get my first one till mid 70's. A babyblue urathane board by Makaha. I wiped out so hard so many times and one time I was doing around 40 or 50 mph and sliding in grass during the wipe did not make it a lot less painful, just less blood on everything.

I wiped out on tarmac, took off knees, elbows, and the back of my head. Lost a whole summer holiday. Happy days :)
